Awarded Best Swim Classes!

Waterworks was awarded "Best Swim Classes in Orange County" by Parenting OC Magazine for the fifth consecutive year! This award includes both South and North Orange County. We are so appreciative of this award and want to thank all of our loyal customers for their continued support.

Special Olympics: Unified Relay

Hitting every state over 46 days, the relay will involve thousands carrying the Flame of Hope and lighting the way to a future of inclusion and respect for people with intellectual disabilities. ESPN and ABC will showcase the story of this historic relay leading up to the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games.

From Athens to Los Angeles

Special Olympics and Olympic figure-skating legend Michelle Kwan announced today on ABC’s Good Morning America that registration has opened for the first-ever Special Olympics Unified Relay Across America presented by Bank of America. The Unified Relay will give anyone in the country a chance to carry the Flame of Hope that will be lit in Athens, Greece and help deliver it to Los Angeles for the Special Olympics World Games – now only six months away. Over the course of 46 days, in a hand-to-hand exchange, over 20,000 participants will run, walk or bike a segment of the relay in this team and individual fundraising event as it passes through all 50 states.

The relay will culminate at the Opening Ceremony of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles on July 25, 2015. ESPN, the official broadcaster of the World Games, will produce the Opening Ceremony live as well as a nightly highlights program throughout the nine-day event.

Individual and Teams Will Carry the Torch

Supporters will have the opportunity to run with the Flame of Hope by signing up as an individual torchbearer or as a team of torchbearers for a half-mile walk or run segment or a five-mile bike segment in an area of interest across the United States. Funds raised from the Unified Relay will go to Special Olympics to provide sports training, competition opportunities and additional programming that empowers people with intellectual disabilities to become accepted and valued members of their communities, which leads to a more respectful and inclusive society for all. Participants can find out more information and sign up for the Unified Relay Across America presented by Bank of America at www.unifiedrelay.org.

ESPN and ABC are the Official Media Partners of the Unified Relay Across America presented by Bank of America. ESPN is a long-time supporter of Special Olympics and is also the Official Broadcaster of the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games. Their local and national support of the Unified Relay will lead into the 25 July World Games Opening Ceremonies, televised on ESPN’s networks.

Throughout the 46 days, ESPN and ABC media will tell the story of the relay across its multiple media platforms, covering and promoting each of the three routes as they cross the country. It will include national coverage on ESPN and ABC programs at select stops throughout the relay, local coverage on ABC-owned stations and affiliates along the routes, a “torch tracker” and “Countdown to LA2015” clock on ESPN.com and select ABC digital media, and promotion across ESPN web sites and radio stations as well as ABC affiliate stations – letting people know when the torch is coming to their town and where they can go to support the torch bearers.

Additionally, employees from ESPN and ABC will participate as torchbearers.

“We are extremely proud of the relationship we have with Special Olympics Unified Sports, the Unified Relay Across America and the upcoming LA2015 World Games,” said Russell Wolff, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, ESPN International. “We can’t wait to tell the many amazing stories of this relay and the Games this summer.”

Additional corporate supporters of the Unified Relay Across America presented by Bank of America include Microsoft, Toyota and Homeaway.

Pre-Competitive Swim

Why does Waterworks Aquatics focus so much attention on Pre-Competitive Swim?
“Learning it the right way, right from the beginning.”

At Waterworks Aquatics we pride ourselves on teaching the necessary skills needed to become a comfortable, proficient swimmer right from the beginning. A good swimmer is one that can move through the water in an efficient and almost effortless manner. Our Swim School takes each student from one step to the next without skipping crucial skills or giving children a false sense of security in the water. To achieve the strength, endurance, and flawless technique of a true athlete, one must begin with a solid, foundational program that emphasizes buoyancy, breath control, and proper stroke development, coupled with basic water safety skills.

These skills include each of the five swim strokes: back stroke, breast stroke, freestyle, butterfly, and doggie-paddle. Swimmers in our unique Level System will learn the basics of each swim stroke, along with proper dives, turns, pace, and techniques. Our new 12 Level progression system and our small class sizes allows for accelerated learning. We guarantee your child will learn advanced swim techniques at a younger age and at a quicker rate than any other swim school has to offer.

Swim Competitions are open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays, and children will have the opportunity to compete against other swimmers and against old times. Students will swim the Individual Medley, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and Freestyle. Ribbons will be awarded to ALL participants. Time improvement ribbons will also be awarded to participants that have swum in a past meet and have achieved their personal best time. In addition, trophies will be awarded to swimmers that have received 15, 30, 50, 75,125, 200, and 300 ribbons (includes participant, placement and time improvement ribbons).  Refreshments and food will be available for purchase at our snack shop. Hotdogs, Cheeseburgers, Dippin Dots, snow cones and a variety of other snacks will be served. Be sure to check the location nearest to you for availability.

Glow in the Dark Party

On the evening of January 18th, a group of our Pasadena staff members visited the Sierra Madre facility for a “Glow in the Dark” party.  As the patrons were gradually exiting the facility, instructors, office staff, and deck supervisors were all showing up to spend time with each other at their sister facility, with the promise of food and neon decorations as their only motivation.  Employees from both locations gathered around an array of various foods displayed across the picnic table, from homemade enchiladas, to burgers and hot dogs.  Leticia brought ten pounds of carne asada, Jake brought a handful of steak kabobs, and Chris brought cupcakes.  Scarlett, one of our Pasadena Aquatics staff members, brought a number of glow sticks and balloons to put in the pool.   Everyone was excited to pitch in.  With the sun slowly setting over the hills, the light from the pool started to reflect off the surrounding trees and buildings.  Instructors that spend a majority of their week in the pool jumped in for games such as Marco Polo, the Turtle Rodeo, and an improvised, unnamed version of underwater tug-of-war.  On the pool deck, there was a game involving blindfolds and eggs, which somehow remained un-cracked.  Throughout the course of three hours, there were about twenty five staff members mingling, competing, and eating together on a Sunday night under the Sierra Madre skies.  It was encouraging to see these young people bonding outside of their required work time, and then offering to help clean up when the night was over.  As easy as it was to plan and organize, the result was an incredible display of team-building and passion for what we do.  We look forward to future events and parties, not only for the free food and games, but for an opportunity to strengthen the bond between staff members.
