This week's Aquatics Spotlight is on Justin who is currently the Aquatics Manager here at Waterworks Aquatics in Irvine. He began swimming at a young age and competed throughout high school. His Junior year in High School he helped his team win the CIF Championships, swimming the 200m freestyle and the 500m freestyle. After high school he became a Certified Dive Instructor through PADI and began working as a lifeguard. He started at Waterworks Aquatics in Carlsbad, and eventually became Aquatics Manager in Irvine. He oversees operations: scheduling staff and instructors and improving the quality of instructors and programs. He gives each instructor one on one training along with 60 hours in and out of the water training. He then tests each instructor until he feels they are confident enough to handle six kids at a time.
This Saturday Justin will be hosting the Make-a-Wish Foundation in our first ever Swim-a-thon. Our goal is to raise at least $5,000 which is the amount it costs to make a child's wish come true. "We expect the swim-a-thon to be as popular as our 10-Year Anniversary event. We want this event to be so successful it becomes an annual occurrence, as we want to do everything we can to help the Make-a-Wish Foundation and the child that benefit from its programs." Waterworks Aquatics will be donating 100% of the proceeds to the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Justin hopes to work with the Make-a-Wish Foundation soon as they are extremely reputable with a clear mission.
